Why people like this band is utterly beyond me, reputable people with otherwise good taste in music tend to be taken in by this 8th generation Urban Outfitters sounding turd.

there is nothing impressive about copping radiohead's sound at its most banal and rehashing it in every song. at best, they're a mongoloid's approximation of 'the bends', without anything that made that record bearable.

I'll be the first non-crap vote....

I had them pegged as another giver of radio head, but when I actually listened to A Rush of Blood...in it's entirety I was duly impressed...beautiful melodies and one of the more tolerable singles of last year, 'Clocks'

But this isn't the safest place for lovers of certain kinds of pop music so I'll just exit with that

i understand the argument that they're somewhat derivative of other
bands across the pond and that they, at times, can be boring, but
i disagree with the crap statements. a couple of their singles get me
every time. 'yellow' is one of the better singles in the last few years.

They're not great but they're on the high end of tolerable. I would say not crap.

well, this supposed "art-school" rock just sounds kind of shitty to me. there is a beauty to simplicity, but coldplay just kind of annoys me. I did get to see an a cappella group at pomona college do a version of one of their songs, which i did enjoy. otherwise though, i can't really stand them.

Oh my, I am really about to defend Coldplay! I never thought it would come to this but here I go...

They are not the Beatles. They are not Neil Young, nor are they the Velvet Underground or Slint. That said, I really do enjoy hearing their songs. It is a total guilty pleasure. Ear candy? Yes. Balls? No. But still, something about the songs makes me enjoy them.
