I'm going to Seattle from Chicago at the end of July. Out on Wednesday, back on Sunday.

I'm on the verge of spending $391 for a round-trip ticket on American. One
stop each way. I can't believe this shit! The cheapest flight available of
any kind is on America West, flying out of Milwaukee, one stop, flying
back into Midway, also one stop. That's $317.

Cheapest non-stop is $430 on American, with a redeye coming back on
Sunday. I hate redeyes more than I hate one-stops.

What the hell happened to cheap airfare? Or maybe I should hold out for
some last-minute deal? This is insanity. I mean, gas is expensive, but
come on! This is America!

I'm wondering if any of you are having similar experiences.

Northwest just started a sale -- not much cheaper, but a bit.

I don't think you can count on cheap airfare anymore. Or cheap travel of any motorized kind.
Perhaps we are living through an era where most Americans realize that they can't travel the way they used to, the way their parents were able to travel. Like, $1 gas and dirt cheap roundtrips. I don't think that stuff is making a comeback, ever.
Maybe I'm a pessimist.

I just bought two last minute round trip tickets to Denver from Indianapolis.

$431 each.


.... I had no other choice, but i still can't help feeling ripped off.

I have noticed that my usual weekly, "cheap, last-minute fares" emails have had just about nothing the past couple of weeks.

Might just be because it's summer, but that's just wishful thinking on my part.

airfares have gone up. because flights are booked to maximum capacity. and operations volumes are higher than they've ever been. that's right, the post-9/11 freakout is now officially completely over with. so there's a big enough demand that they no longer need to entice anyone to fly. people are flying more than ever before.

does southwest not fly out there?

You might want to check The National Report.

They are a blog that has people who look up the best airline deals each day and then post them.
