Finally, finally found a copy of Griller yesterday after searching high-and-low for what feels like forever. I love the shit out of In Gut's House (a record I see everywhere) and can never understand why more people don't know/love this band. Haven't heard any of the pre-Blast First stuff, but I am always looking...

Ok I wanted bump my own C/NC topic here, becuz I have been on a huge UT kick recently, holy crap these records! So great! And no one ever talks about them! They are hard-to-find, but not really vaulable, why? I would easily have paid twice what I did and still felt like they were a steal.
I got hooked up w/ copies of some of the early stuff, they progress from harsh, no wave skronk to a somewhat more polished, yet still clattering rock. Its good, but their last two albums, In Gut's House and Griller (the two Blast First records), its hard to describe these records, Sonic Youth-y, yea, but heavy (esp Griller) in way that SY usually aren't and I guess its sometimes shambling sort of like the Raincoats or the Slits. But the more I listen, the more the way the guitars pile up & overlap & bat back and forth, the more it reminds of US Maple. And I love the vocals, but I might see where they might turn a listener off, but fuck 'em, these two records are insanely great, distinctive and unique.
"Safe Burning" off of Griller, I listened to this song three times in a row in the car yesterday, there is this guitar break early on that I don't know if I will ever tire of hearing.
UT! Salut! You are underrated, but so, so, so Not Crap

Thinking of Ut reminds me that there are so many great forgotten bands out there.
Makes the head hurt a bit.

I am going down to the Nicollect Mall tonight to force the records onto unsuspecting people walking down the street.

NOT CRAP! "Dr. No, " "Fuel," and "Canker" are the JAMS today in this house. What ever happened to these people anyway? Also, has anybody heard
Conviction or the live album?
I think I will make a tiny picture of this in Ut's honor.

For anyone reading this thread wondering where to get ahold of UT stuff, Mute is going to re-release both
In Gut's House and
Griller in August.
Conviction is great. Haven't heard the live album but it seems really hard to get ahold of...
I wrote about the band fairly recently. The article is here:

Great! Hope there'll be extra tracks on both, maybe even some from that hard-to-find live album. Meanwhile I still need
Conviction, as well as whatever may exist by the Gynecologists and probably some early Dark Day too. I shall consult the Typical Girls e-mail list.
If I recall correctly, Steve Albini remarked about the recording of
Griller that the band 1) drank herbal teas that smelled to him like dirty socks, and 2) took their reproductive cycles into account in planning the sessions. Judging by the album, it all worked out well.
Nice one. I just read it the other day after googling for Ut and the band members' names.
Lydia Lunch kicked James Chance out of TJ&tJ because his sax playing was too ... FLOWERY?
