Hey,
I picked up a Weller DS 100 desoldering station recently and I discovered that it uses an external vacuum source. Does anyone have any idea of what to connect to this as a vacuum (obviously some sort of vacuum, but what)? It just has a hose coming out of the back that is labeled "vacuum." Anone ever used one of these?

2not sure exactly what you are missing, but this site site has a description and parts list of all that would be included in a ds 100 setup

3it's a not-included vacuum unit. its nont on there, because I dont think Weller manufactures it. There's a vacuum hose that comes out of the back of the station, and i believe a vacuum source attaches to it. i just dont know where to get a small vacuum source that would work for it.

5hmmm... it needs an actual vacuum unit. An electronic vacuum unit. For example, a pneumatic framing nailer is to an air compressor as the DS 100 is to a vacuum unit. It's pretty weird.

6Dan,
You don't want that thing. Throw it away.
Better yet, drop it off at my shop so it can be safely disposed of.

7I'm about to give up on it. I sent an email to Weller (Cooper Tools) and hopefully I will get word back from them. If I hear nothing, at least I can use it just for the soldering iron part. It's a nice one!

8I am not happy with Weller tools at all!
I bought SCD-100 desoldering gun and i must change tips very often because temperature is to high and there is no regulation - result is that TIP have short life.
Also I have MT1500, nice station but again tips are not quality. They last long but if you force it a bit while soldering than it become lose contact inside of tip. (it use integrated heater in tip)
My Wes51 is not bad, i like it more than MT1500
I remember old Weller stations, they could last you more than 10 years... These new ones I dont like...
