Not crap.

He is an amazing musician and, if nothing else, pulled off a cover of Coltrane's 'Interstellar Space'.

He's also a welcome addition to Wilco.

Oh, so not crap...

Saw him do a solo set of guitar noise-magick before Carla Bozulich performed (Chicago, o'3?) and it was like being stuck inside a jet engine...so beautiful...and a total fucking mensch to boot!

Faiz

Oh, I was about to be so bummed. "Faiz? Dependable Faiz? Wha'appen?" Anyway, nice psyche dude.

Nels Cline rules. One of the benefits of living in LA is the regular opportunity to see him play, especially when it's with his brother, Alex. By the way, for a period of years, every time I saw N. Cline play, he was wearing high-water pants. The last couple of times, though, no high-waters. Points to ponder...
If it wasn't for landlords, there would have been no Karl Marx.

That sums it up quite well. It's always a pleasure to hear his work, and those I know who've met him tell me he's a stand-up guy.

Very much not crap.

NOT CRAP!

Instrumentals (Nels Cline Singers) is very good.

I agree re: Watt's album.

Banyan's Live at Perkins' Palace is also worth a listen. Someone described this as Miles (Bitches Brew-Agharta/Pangaea era) meets Fripp!

I like his work on Wilco's Kicking Television live album.

I still have a lot to discover and have just scratched the surface of Cline's world.

he seems to put an incredible amount of thought and honesty into what he does. he is also one of the most controlled guitarists i have ever seen as far as seeing someone play an improv show...the man just seems to completely understand the guitar and exactly what kind of weird sound he wants to come out of it next.
an amazing musician.

also he was very cool when i met him, and quite easy on the eyes as well.

definitely not crap.
