The news over last couple of hours from the initial reports of a 'power surge' has got progressively darker, it seems now at least 3 buses have blown up and the underground has closed after multiple explosions and even some reported train collisions.

Are all of you okay down there? Cranius? Rabbit? I've had a few messages from friends in the area and it sounds like something out of a disaster movie. Official news channels still being a bit sluggish to report what's going on but it sounds much more serious than they're letting on.

Well I'm OK and so is Hip Priest. We both work in the West End, but fortunately neither of us were working today, so we're just sat here watching News 24. All of the mobile networks are down so it's hard to contact friends/family etc.

Yes, this is looking increasingly bleak. I think in a couple of hours there will be much more info about exactly what happened. All official comments seem deliberately guarded at the moment, unsurprisingly.

I hope everyone's ok. Fingers crossed that fatalities are minimal.

I work in the city. The whole thing is pretty nuts at the moment - no buses (in Zone 1), trains or tubes running. Areas cordoned off & reports of many fatalities.

What is worrying is that many of the Met. police are in Gleneagles policing the G8 summit.

All in all, this is pretty frightening.

Luckily, my better half wasn't on an early shift today (she works up on Oxford Street). I am in Walthamstow feeling jittery - she could have been on one of those trains or buses.. and wondering whether to go and pick up our daughter from nursery, though she's probably safest there for the minute. After feeling so good yesterday about the Olympic result, I'm at the other end of the spectrum right now.

But still, at least (!) London is somewhat used to this, we had the IRA threats/actions for years.

I'm Ok.

My sister had to get off the bus at Shoreditch, but she's come round here. She said everyone was terrified. They're saying there have been six explosions at the moment. Mobile phones are blocked.

I was just about to go down to Brick Lane, which is really close to Aldgate East, to get some festival tickets. My wife's teaching in West London today, I don't know how she's going to get back.

The reports on TV are very confused at the moment.

Okay, this now looks very serious indeed. It looks like it is a terrorist attack, and people are speculating that it's because police efforts and attention are currently elsewhere - the G8 conference.
My girlfriend works for the Houses Of Parliament, they've put up a ring of armed police around her offices and are preventing anyone from leaving.

Tony Blair's making a statement at 12pm.
