Anybody live in San Diego? If so, how do you like it? Is it really expensive? I live in louisville. I like it here but just want to make a move.

I visited San Diego and have never been the same. I would live there if I was you.

Louisville is a fine place also, but California knows how to party.

San diego is fairly expensive. expect to pay at least 800.00 dollars for a studio apt. areas you might look at if you visit are Golden hills east of downtown and next to singing serpent studios. south park which is a little cheaper than golden hills further and east and north but only ten blocks. North of downtown is bankers hill, mission hills, and hillcrest. Hill crest and mission hills are pretty expensive most of the kids moved out of there. there's downtown itself but that is probably the most expensive. the weather is awesome but for some reason assholes like nice weather because we have a lot of them. Also the two big colleges aren't any where near the city ucsd is in la jolla/utc and san diego state is out in east county.Plus it's pretty jocko/fraternity meathead. i think this has an effect on the local music scene as far as low attendance at shows.

San Diego is not somewhat expensive. It is extraordinarily expensive! It is, in it's nicer areas, some of the most expensive real estate in the nation.

As for "the scene" - their premiere rock, punk, indie club, The Casbah, is absolutely phenomenal. Along with the late Bogart's in Long Beach, CBGBs, and the now defunct Club Mesa in Costa Mesa, CA, it is one of my all time favorites in terms of atmosphere and the quality of shows. The Casbah, if it already isn't, should be one of those nationally known clubs that everyone should visit when travelling - like a CBGBs in NY, Trees in Deep Ellum (Dallas), Stubbs in Austin, The Doll Hut in Anaheim.

What about living in Tijuana or Tecate and commuting to SD to work?(I'm not joking). Some obviously do it, I found some discussion of it on the net, it wasn't very informative but they quoted some rental prices $300-450 mo. for a single in a decent neighborhood.

My old Boss said he used to live in SD and that the utilities, particularly the electric were insane, like $800-900 a month for a single person, but he also always kinda seemed like he might be lying, about the most trivial, off handed shit, with nothing apparent to gain by doing so, I've met others like this.
