is max still drumming for bruce? unless i've got this wrong, there was an episode of conan where conan was talking with max about how he felt about having been kicked out of the E Street band... it may well have been a joke, but it didn't seem like it was.

one thing i'll say about max is that about a year or two ago i thought he was great at what he did, which is play drums and be the unfunny comic relief or whatever it is he does. but it seems like in the more recent months, not only has he not been quite as funny, it seems like his drumming is somehow weaker, too.

maybe that's me being more critical, maybe that's a psychological inference i'm making because i believed their discussion about how he was kicked outta bruce's band, or maybe it's legit. but i definitely don't dig max like i usedta.

His drumming seems competent yet lackluster to me and his presence and lack of humor are causing me to think about not playing drums or being white any more in protest of him.

i was going to also add "robot arms, lacking at least two crucial joints" but i didn't know how to word that and be funny at the same time. case in point.

Hey, I'm a big dumb jerk. I like his drumming fine, and I think he's sufficiently funny on Conan.

My younger brother, though, really used to have a problem with Max Weinberg. He always said Weinberg was "showing off" because he smiles when he drums (?). This still makes me laugh for some reason.

I'll give him a NOT CRAP based soley on the clip from a few years ago where they depicted Max having sex with himself. That still makes me chuckle to think about it.

To the MAX.

Max also wrote a very entertaining book called The Big Beat, in which he interviews a bunch of his favorite rock drummers. The chapter in which Bernard Purdie claims at length that he played on all the Beatles albums instead of Ringo is pretty hilarious.

Max is a solid drummer who doesn't overplay, and understands the virtues of a well-tuned four piece kit. Nothing wrong with that. Not crap.
