I've recently graduated with a Business/Audio Recording Tech degree. At this point, I kind of realize that there's not a specific job path for audio. Can anyone let me in on jumping into the audio field? I'm figuring I'm going to have my 9-5, whatever that may be.......and an internship at a studio. Does it pay to work in live sound first before interning and trying to slide into a studio job? As far as my 9-5, I've been in construction, sanitation, and sales. Is there a job that complements the audio field and contains some of the same skills necessary as are in studio and live sound jobs? Is an A/V tech job complementary? any advice would be much appreciated......

I reposted this here because Interns corner didn't yield any replies...

based on your degree, it sounds like a good place to look for a job would be a hi-fi shop, somewhere that sells or rents out expensive A/V equipment for residential or commercial applications. i would think you could get into a sales position, which would likely be commission-based, but if you're good at selling things, you could probably make enough money to put together a home studio kinda thing over a number of years.

as far as interning at a studio, or working in a studio, i couldn't tell you much. i realized after a really, really short period of time working in a studio that i just wasn't cut out for recording other people's music when i didn't really dig it. mostly i'm better at recording my own stuff. so i gave up on the studio path idea about 9 years ago.

i can't even imagine how much things have changed since then, now that everybody on the planet has their own home studio with some studio in a box or hard-disk based recording setup!!!
