If you mean prentious in the sense that they pretend to have insight into the essence of good music why is it that critics always like bands that have ugly album covers and are the best version of the worst shit and Loudon Wainwright lll and Warren Zevon and Yo La Tango I have to agree with you.

They're useful for news and whatnot, but their reviews are mostly mindbendingly dumb, and they don't appear to have a lot of foresight (regarding the actual lifespan of some of these 9.X rated albums).
