so, i'm going to see the rocket from the tombs reunion tonight, and was wondering if any of you fine folks have seen them live since they got back together. apparently, richard lloyd is filling in for peter laughner, and i think he's probably a good choice.

in any case, if anyone has seen them recently, i'm curious about your opinion.

I caught the last five or six songs at their Dallas show on Sunday. I mainly went to see Lloyd play (he is my favorite guitarist of all time, after all), and while I wasn't really all to jazzed about The Day The Earth Met..., I had a great time. Thomas seemed in reasonable spirits, and while they weren't shit-hot like the Wire or Mission of Burma reunions (or, for that matter, the four Ex shows I saw this year), it was still totally enjoyable.

Lloyd, though, that guy is just plain effortless.

i thought they were pretty damned great. i agree with the previous poster, though, in that they weren't quite as good as wire or mission of burma when i saw them. still, that's a mighty high standard to hold anyone to.

david thomas got into with this guy who was annoyingly videotaping the show. some hipster kid in the crowd started shouting "why?" when he said no-one could video, and thomas yelled something along the lines of "you are the consumer and we are the consum-ee. this is our fucking art", which shut the guy up. priceless.
