I was wondering if anyone out there uses one or finds these worth while to get. They seem like a good idea, but I want to be sure before I go about getting one

i have one that was given to me as a gift. i only use it when i'm on multi-hour roadtrips. i've not gotten a speeding ticket before i got it, nor since, except once on lake shore drive in chicago (years ago) cause it was snowing and the cop felt like it.
what it does for me is make me feel like i can speed like i always do, but have a better chance of braking in time to not get a ticket. *especially* at night. during the day i'm pretty good about scanning visually at the horizon. but at night, no good.
they're illegal in virginia. isn't that crazy?
there's also a such thing as a "radar detector detector". it seems to me like it would be impossible to detect the fact that radar is being detected, but i asked a guy who's way ahead of the curve when it comes to uber-tech stuff, and he said it is indeed a real thing, and it works by reading the signature of the oscillator used in a radar detector. i don't really get it, but this guy is kinda smort.

I think they're pretty cool if you drive an '82 Trans Am with a t-top, and a tape deck with Blizzard of Ozz stuck in it.

Bump.
I just got a fucking ticket on the border between Idaho and Washington. The cop gave me a break though as I was "from the west side of the mountains". Worked in my favor, but what the fuck?
For the record, the speed-limit changes from 70 to 60 at the state line. I was clocked doing 72 right around there. The cop wrote "70+" as my speed. That shaved some duckets off of my fee but I'm still a bit pissed.
I want a radar detector.

$300 for a detector to save you from that $150 fine? Sure, go right ahead!

you thought you were going the speed limit anyway, so it wouldn't have saved you.

Down here, we call 'em fuzz busters. Don't leave home without one, not if you drive like me--with the pedal to the metal.
Not crap.

The first time I got to drive with a fuzz buster I was a fuckin' idiot. After my friend and I switched off driving duties at a rest stop, I floored it, merging onto the Pennsylvania turnpike @95 mph. What I didn't realize was that a cop was hiding, waiting to just do a quick bleep of his radar gun as I drove by. I flew by him, he flashed his radar gun, the fuzz buster beeped and it was too god damned late for me do to anything -- he caught my speed. After getting yelled at, I got a ticket for $130.
Stupid stupid.

Every speeding ticket I've ever received was from a laser, not radar. Is there anything you can do to protect yourself against a motherfucking laser?
