Buddy Holly was old-school. You can tell cause he's been gone a long, long time. Rate Buddy Holly focusing on his kickin' ass at being old-school and breaking ground and stuff, such as:
-Popularized the Dork Glasses aka Indie Glasses aka Empty Bottle Dresscode that probably 50% of us wear (mine are tortoise-shell, JEALOUS?)
-Popularized the whole rockstars-dying-young-before-they-have-a-chance-to-get-all-fat-and-old-and-totally-go-in-the-shitter movement (no Elvis pun intended)
-Universe's first known use of slapping one's legs as a percussion instrument (okay, that *way* predates him, but let's act like it was original)
-Named "Buddy"

Good singer, great songwriter, he could rock that Stratocaster but good, and created a template that thousands of geek rockers follow to this day. His music endures for a good reason -- it's simple and sublime. And he died so that Waylon Jennings could live (well, not on purpose, but that's how it worked out). Not Crap.

Shit, I'm listening to his stuff right now and it's just killing me. He always makes me feel so good. And the recordings sound so clear. I can't imagine what rock music would've been like without Buddy.

"Everyday" is a marvelous song.
The hiccupy delivery I so reviled as a teen is now one of the things I like best about Buddy Holly. That and his excellent songwriting.
Not crap.

Buddy Holly makes me nostalgic, and I am not prone to nostalgia. I love the directness of his lyrics, and the plainness of the images in them.
"Goin' faster than a rollercoaster..." what a perfect phrase! It conjures a careening, giddy, somewhat frightening experience, under the guise of "going faster." Perfect!
And it isn't an experiential reference! The protagonist recognizes this quality and longs for it! He says it will "surely come my way." Buddy Holly has brought us into the mind of a young man pining after a woman, all the while expressing the mad sensations he hopes to experience when he finally gets her, as he is sure he will!
Buddy Holly, you were an ordinary guy who played cool songs with his buddies! I admire you!
