Fantastic. If their new material is half as good as OnOffOn it'll be a great fricking record.

Right. That's super-cool, Deej. Has nothing to do with a progress
report on recording the new MOB record, though.
Bob, wherever you are...

Here's hoping Peter Prescott continues to contribute several songs. I thought his three (particularly The Enthusiast) were among the strongest tracks on Onoffon, whereas I could have done without Roger's Into the Fire and Fever Moon and Clint's Prepared.
Clint said somewhere that he was glad to "finally get a good bass sound" on Onoffon, which really surprised me because I don't think the Shellac-type bass worked well within MOB's busy sound. Considering the texture of Miller's guitar, the smoother, fuller bass found on "Secrets" (and most of Vs.) is much more audible. In terms of production, I think the rhythm section on Onoffon lost a bit of wallop from Vs.
I would guess that the next album will sound even more like an "musical collective" than Onoffon did; Roger and Clint's music was somewhat different on the 80s records, but the differences were obvious on the new one. "The Setup" and "Prepared" are definitely two different composers, and it would be reasonable to expect the differences to widen on the next record, I think?
And Bob should go nuts with tape loops.

I'm really surprised Clint would say that. The sound of his bass on
Vs., especially "Secrets," "Dead Pool," "Einstein's Day," and "Train" is for me sort of the gold standard of bass sounds. I don't recall his bass sounding that different on the last album, or having that Shellac sound (which would make sense, obviously). I need to go back and listen.
