I was in portland this evening incredibly excited to see, Shellac. I stood in line for 2 and a half hours, and right when the doors were supposed to open, a man emerged. He asked who was going to this show that was under 21, I told him me and my friend were, us being 17 and 15. He then told us that, the show had been changed from All Ages, to 21+ because of the goddamn Oregon Liquor Control Commision. So I ended up not being able to see one of my favorite bands in the entirety of the universe, and just ended up in portland, incredibly depressed that I wasn't 21. who else thinks that it is incredibly shitty to to announce a show changing from, All ages, to 21+, right when the doors are opening, and anyone who spent time traveling has wasted some portion of their life, only to feel crappy. I must say, I am pissed at the OLCC.

Dude, I am so sorry, I know exactly how you feel. I wasn't able to see Shellac in New Orleans for the Tape Op Con a couple of months ago cause of my age... truly does suck!

I, too am extremely disappointed with the situation this evening in Portland. I drove Tensor and my son to see Shellac at the all ages show at Berbati's Pan. Spent $26.40 on tickets, $33.00 on gas and a good deal of energy driving 2 hours from Eugene to get to the show. I am still unclear on why, exactly, the OLCC decided to go back on their agreement with the club to allow them to hold an all ages show. Something to do with a shooting. I suppose that we could have stayed outside and "watched" the show through the postered window, but Berbati's is in a crappy neighborhood and the Mom in me was uncomfortable with standing around outside while all of the aged priviledged were safe inside, seeing the show that we three had so highly anticipating ever since we heard it was going to happen.
I know...bitch, wine, moan, poor us, but bitch, wine, moan, poor us.
These kinds of situations make me want to boycott 21+ shows altogether. It's a sad reality that alcohol brings such a high profit to the live venues that the youth are totally dis-considered and dis-invited.

Thanks for trying, Shellac men, to hold an all ages gig. You would have been received with youthfull tears of joy, wide-eyed rock-hero worship and sober enthusiasm.

Shucks. It isn't my place to post on this thread at all. But I want to say:

- it's great that Shellac (or any band that clearly doesn't need to) have been booking all-ages shows

- it's incredible that 15 year-olds are really into Shellac

- it's really unfortunate that his show went awry in this manner

Well, I hope it's not too late, BUT....

Both Seattle shows this weekend are indeed all ages. No alcohol at this place... candy and soda. It's a partially city funded all ages venue with stage, lighting, P.A., everything..

..AND, they are selling limited tickets at the door the day of the shows, despite both shows being sold out pre-show. (Not sure if BOTH shows sold out, but there is a sign on the door saying "limited tickets will be sold day of the show.")

So, if you don't mind driving up to Seattle and getting to the Vera by around 7pm or so tomorrow (doors open at 7:30pm), you and son will have a very good chance of seeing Shellac this weekend. If not driving, then grab an Amtrak train (a 500 series Cascade train please.) or a Greyhound bus. The show is in downtown, and so are the Amtrak and Greyhound stations in Seattle.

Thanks for the info. I am a starving student of nursing...spent all (more, really) that I could afford to on the futile Portland adventure.

You guys got doubly screwed. Everyone over 21 remembers shows they wanted to see but couldn't get into when they were younger. But not announcing the change to last night's setup until they were opening the doors was BS. Berbati's had to have known about this situation at least a few days in advance - plenty of time to get the info into their WWeek ad or at least onto their website.

Were you able to sell your tickets?

You gotta try to get yourselves up to Seattle tonight or tomorrow - it'll absolutely be worth it.

Now I don't feel so bad about not going...
