I just read this on Huffington Post (though my response there hasn't gone through).

I'm just curious: where did he hear this? Sounds like bullshit (especially considering that the report is no longer on the frontpage), but if it's true, he should have mentioned in his "report" that the human body can survive for weeks without food. Four days is nothing. Of course, there might possibly be some kind of health problem that necessitates resorting to cannibalism after a few days, but I can't think of one off the top of my head. But hey, I'm not a physician.

What those people are going through, I cannot imagine. However, I cannot imagine resorting to cannibalism after four days. If this is true, and I seriously doubt it is, the phrase "ghoulishly over-eager" comes to mind.

EDIT: Re-reading this, I realize that it sounds fairly callous. I guess to me, cannibalism is a big taboo, though I also believe it's a taboo worth breaking to survive, as most taboos are. The preservation of life takes precedence over social constructs. I just question whether cannibalism after being cut-off from a food source for four days is really a question of preserving one's life.

But then again, I still think this report is very, very suspect.

Yeah, I heard about 30 days for food. I understand that we can only go about maximum 7 days without water. So it seems to me people would be drinking urine right now, not eating corpses.
