Thought I'd bump this one, since in a little more than a month I'm putting on the second annual Open Mic Jandek Cover Night for Jandek Day (November 5).
Not Crap. I will take vision over technical facility any day.

Once you get over the fact that Jandek can't sing or play guitar or even compose a song very well, his music is some of the most harrowing stuff I've ever heard.
"You Painted Your Teeth" is a million times scarier than any death metal song.

i dont really like going by allmusic.com or anything. does anyone have any recommendations on what to start out with? ive heard a few tracks and they were interesting enough to make me want to check out more, especially after reading his mini-bio.

It takes a set of balls the size of the Empire State building to do what he does. I've a few tracks and I love it all.
NOT CRAP WF: 3 because of those idiots who think he's genius because his music sucks. I like what I've heard, alot!

LOST CAUSE is one of the more easier listens in my opinion. A good starter.. But really I think you need to get the whole damn collection (39 now I believe) all at once and wallow through slowly, sinking deeper and deeper into his murky mess.
Plus it is very cheap to buy them all at once from Corwood ($4 each for 20 or more).

Have you actually done that? Is it really worth spending 150 bucks on all of his CDs? It would be an impressive collection, but that's quite a bit to spend. I just want to know if anybody's actually bought all of his CDs at once or if you're just fucking with us.

I had seven of the LPs when I did decide to buy all the CDs at once (36 at the time). I am still wallowing through them. I have picked up each new one as they came out directly from Corwood. He ships pretty quickly.
I think each record brings a lot into view but the whole body of work is simply terrifying. I am happy with my purchase.
