not crap. very much not crap. seventeen seconds, faith, and (especially) pornography are among my all-time favorite records. all the other ones are also great. yes, even the synthpoppy stuff compiled on japanese whispers. i think they've been consistently great, save for a few songs i could do without.
i hate most cure fans, though.

Ah! Faith - she is not crap! Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me though - she is crap except for a couple songs which are not crap.

....not that I've listened to them much in the past decade, but each record is of quality and consistancy, without sounding overly derivative, as in:
"what's that? it sounds like a new Cure record."
"It is."
"Oh. cool."
a solid example of a band finding and then expanding their sound over 25+ years - never completely pulling a 180, but evolving nicely.
It is a little odd, Mr. Smith, what with the hairspray and whiteface and everything, but, y'know, whatever.

Even though they are up there with the other groups responsible for the goth thing, they're NOT CRAP. I agree that their fans are CRAP for the most part. The make-up thing is almost as bad as Kiss or clowns. God I hate clowns. "A Forest" is probably one of my favorite songs of all time.

I loved them in 7th grade, when my ignorant music tastes were simpler and easily satisfied....But, now, 20 years later, I must give them a crap.

Crap here too. Three or four good albums over 25 years does not warrant a Not Crap. Pornography is great though.

Great band. One of the greatest ever. I liked them best in the early 80's when Robert Smith got pretty fat from drinking.
And who can forget "The Love Cats". They re-invented jazz with that one. Miles, Coltrane, and Smith, man... Now that's jazz!
Glad to see an > 80% approval rating for the Cure! Genius! Brilliance! Yeah, best use of that Boss delay, chorus, and flanging pedal I've ever heard.

Just got the double disc reissue of Pornography.
The extra stuff is nice.
