Re: Fearsome & Mammoth Bicycles and Cycling Thread

Anyone have experience with those Polygon bikes they’re pushing hard on social media? The reviews are great and the prices are reasonable. If I can ever justify owning a dual suspension trail bike it’s definitely something to consider. Also gonna be selling my road bike because I’d rather ride my s...

Re: DUNE II

Have not read the books. I saw Dune II once, in the theater after watching Dune a couple times at home. I remember it as an awesome film visually, but also that the second half seemed like an abrupt shift for the main character guy. I probably should read the book(s).

Re: Movie: Civil War

I watched this recently. Think the point was to realistically depict reality of a modern civil war on U.S. soil, which I thought was largely successful. I don't really understand the critique of "but how did we get here? who are these people? TX & CA wtf?" etc. The last ten minutes had...

Re: Favorite The Jesus Lizard record

Goat is a funner record but the one/two punch of Boilermaker and Gladiator is one of the best record openers of all record history. These were actually a single, as if to say that they could stand apart from all of Liar, which is sort of true. I am finally listening to the new one, and def enjoying...

Re: The Breeders records

will be hearing them play Pod and Last Splash in their entirety soon, and I haven't listened to those in a long time, so this may change but: Title TK and All Nerve, tossup. Just super impressive consistency over such a long career. I remember first hearing All Nerve after what, more than a decade s...

Re: Alien vs Aliens

Went to see Romulus last night. It was...fine? A competent action horror movie but little to do with any of the other films. A few odd choices jarred the flow for me.

Somewhere in Prometheus and Covenant there's a really good film with lots of Michael Fassbender. I missed him.

Re: Alien vs Aliens

Alien without a doubt. Scott took his time and I'm a sucker for dread crossed with sci-fi. Aliens is a tremendous shoot 'em up. I read a criticism somewhere the other day that Aliens doesn't "hold up" because the dialog is so corny and cliched. I'm pretty sure it was corny and cliched in 1...

Re: Band: KISS

So "Cold Gin" is basically "Summertime Blues". I've now listened to 2 songs from the first album ("Strutter" the other). This music is garbage. I feel like I could play the guitar parts, and I can't play guitar.

Re: Best Food In Chicago

For Cantonese ( I think ), Honeymoon Cafe on Argyle is excellent. Salt and pepper cuttlefish, lots of greens dishes, chow fun, etc. Has become a go-to. No egg rolls though. For Szechuan/Sichuan north side, Uptown Lao Szechuan and Chengdu Impression on Halsted. Sadly Sze Chuan restaurant in Chinatown...
