Pepper off: Jalapeno vs Habanero

1
I only recently discovered Habanero (or at least, took notice that that was what I was tasting by looking at the ingredients) and I definitely like the flavour better than Jalapeno, which surprised me a little as I've always loved Jalapeno.

I'm talking just enough to feel the heat but also taste the flavour, not let's see who can withstand the hottest shit while sweat pours down their lobster face.

What say you, and what else should be on this list?

Aside from flavor, I think I have to choose jalapeño for its versatility. Pickled, raw, grilled, sautéed, stuffed, with stuff, by itself. Always great. I'm sure someone may counter me on this, but I think you can do a lot more with jalapeño.

I like keeping this at two choices, but if you wanted to expand it, you could add serrano, bird's eye/Thai, and maybe poblanos. I'd hesitate adding the superhots, but that's just me.
Jalapeno of the choices. I find it more versatile. But, in all Honestly Serrano are my favourite, also due to versatility.

Under most conditions, I choose habaneros. They just taste better.

MAJOR WAFFLES! A fresh jalapeño from the garden is a real treat. They don't have the irritating undertones that I tend to dislike about jalapeños - it's not quite an acidic taste, it's something else I can't put my finger on. Fresh garden jalapeños taste like green peppers with a little heat and I happily eat them raw.

Habaneros add a terrific 'tropical' flavor but you basically have to rethink your meal due to the heat. There's little point in trying to pair a good wine with it. Jalapenos are fine but I don't get excited about them.
Indeed. Off-dry Lambrusco or kabinett+ level riesling are about your only options with heat like habanero. That's why I like a little serrano with a lot of pasilla, or ancho. Way more easy to pair. But then I'm not a big fan of "excessive" heat anyway. In quotes because some of you fuckers don't seem to feel anything.

Woah this is a joke right? Habanero all the way. But I like spicy. Reapers, you name it. Jalapeños are tasty but the are too bell-peppery for me sometimes. Habaneros are so vibrant and floral. They make me feel holographic.

May we have more chilli threads? Like a chilli/hot sauce recipe thread? Okay hang on, off the start this very thing.

I will definitely read and participate. It's been too long (a few months) since I made a hot sauce.
