Guitars, like cigars and audio tape, should be stored in rooms with certain temperature and humidity conditions. If a room (like a cellar, for example) is consistently too damp, than a dehumidifier is appropriate. It's no different than using a humidifier in a room that is too dry.

Yo, dude, we use the Moogerfooger delay all the time with balanced XLR to unbalanced 1/4" connectors. I've never had a problem.

For flexibility and portability, I like the NTI Minirator MR1. It can put out several wave forms, white noise, pink noise, will sweep through frequencies, has adjustible output, and it's small enough to fit in your pocket. Really easy to use. I have no experience with the MR2.

The AKG SA40 should work fine, as long as the tab on the XLR connector is in the open area of the clip. I use those clips all the time for Audio-Technica 4033/4047, which have similarly short mic clip mounting areas, and have never had any problem. The symptoms you describe (hums and crackles randomly) COULD be caused by dirt, etc., in the small spaces between the individual key reeds and the pickup. This won't necessarily make the instrument noisy in the way a single coil pickup guitar is noisy, but it will make it crackle and cut out ...

In general, solid state amps are not as tempermental about not having a speaker connected as tube amps are. However, I wouldn't really recommend running any guitar or bass amp without a speaker connected for any great length of time.

Replaced ATR #4 Fan and broke a couple wires in the remote control harness in the process (remote showed "22.22.22" on the display and couldn't be reset). Spent some time rewiring that.
