In fact, I have many favorite albums by her.

I picked up Illuminations by Alice Coltrane and 'Devadip' Carlos Santana, not knowing what to expect, and have to say that it's pretty exceptional (despite it's horrendous sleeve art).



Her arrangements of the vertiginous Indian classical strings are Himalayan. Has a similar religious ectascy to Shakti.

Not Crap. Enlightened.

A copy of "Journey To Satchitananda" should grace every home.

I listen to her more than her late husband now.

i just have A Monastic Trio...it's great...and the John Coltrane: Infinity album where she added a bunch of harp and strings and stuff to some of his songs after he died is very good...it apparently pissed a number of people off at the time...which i guess explains why i think it's only in print in japan...

Joe Henderson / Alice Coltrane - Elements

Seems like everybody has the impulse ones. which is wonderful!
but this is a nice little diversion featuring Charlie Haden, Joe Henderson,
and Alice Coltrane and a bunch of other doudes on indian type instruments. Worth finding.


Has anyone heard Alice Coltrane's version of A Love Supreme?
It Doesn't hold a candle to her late husbands but it is weird and quite funky.

I haven't heard any crap from this artist

A roommate back in the late eighties put on one of her albums (from 1971?) on while I was taking a nap. I woke up in the middle of it, and it was one of the spookiest moments of my life. I don't remember much other than a feeling of great sadness came over me. I haven't heard anything since.

I always felt that she was a better back up for "Trane" in the latter period than McCoy was by the time he quit. She would create more space while McCoy seemed to still be comping and heavy handed with all them chords.
