First new album in 12 years, "Aerial", being released next month.

First single off this, "King of the Mountain" making its debut on BBC radio Wednesday morning.

What time and what station? 6?

I don't know why I really want to hear this. I just really like the way Kate Bush combines a) Prince-style mystique b) British romanticism and c) that 'songwritery' obliqueness and integrity. And those singles! Totally gothic and OTT and brilliant.

Why is Kate Bush presently the coolest artist in Britain?

Weird. And great.

ooh, that's a...great picture, though, badcomrade

i remember it well, having worked many years in a record store myself

and yes, i assisted many creepy sloths in their quest to collect her works

i own _hounds of love_. i never listen to it. but i really liked 'running up that hill,' and despite not having a lot of use for her music otherwise, i vote not crap, based on the accomplished nature of her music and the leotard picture.

This page says, "The single will get it's world premiere on BBC Radio 2 on Wed 21st Sept between 9.30am and 10.30am."

Stewie's right -- she's got a lot in common with Kubrick. They're both artists working in pop mediums, but their precision in structure and metaphor holds its own against any literary or high art.

Hounds of Love is the only Kate Bush record that I've really gotten into, but side 2, taken as a whole, is a really successful example of pop music with a literary structure, better than The Wall.

Her new single is....just not very good. Pretty disappointing actually. Interesting vocal weirdness at the start, but it's a barely memorable melody.

I don't know why she's even bothering with a single - she's much better at creating whole albums.

So, in summary: Meh.

You can listen to it here. Jump 15 mins twice, then jump 5 mins, then you should be at the end of a Roxy Music song, and her song follows right after it.

Ha! Love that leotard picture too.

Tim...pull hounds out and give it a listen.

I did this recently after not listening to it for 12 or more years and was totally entranced by it for weeks afterwards. The production is very "80s"...lots of goofy synths & unnaturally BIG sounding drum machines...but the melodies & her singing really held up for me. It think the whole thing start to finish is beautiful.

Oh, not crap.

Tori Amos stole most of her shtick from Mrs. Bush. Obviously the
talented musician part was lost to Tori.

Fans for both of these artists are fucking creepy.

Hounds of love is a beautiful record.

Thanks a whole lot creep!
Just because i can listen to The Dreaming for hours on end...which is my personal fav (songs about houdini, ghosts, and bank robbin'), doesn't mean I am creepy. Not cleaning out the soured pot on the stove might, but not my love for Kate. :smt062

BTW: unnatural love for donkeys is also creepy :)
