Steve played the un-mastered version of In Utero for my band in his old studio because we happened to be recording the day he got the record in the mail.
As I remember it, the "original" sure sounded good. It was cool to hear both versions back-to-back.

Yeah...what about the new Rudimentary Peni record?

for what he was... Dave Grohl was a pretty awesome drummer in my book. Some nice powerhouse beats came out of the Nirvana cataloge.

Sure Kurt Cobain wasn't the greatest of guitar players, but his songs had some pop sensibility and he even got decent tone (rarely though). I like how he soloed alot too. Listen to the "In Bloom" guitar solo. Fucking ripping and nasty.

As for Krist Noveselic... eh... he was adequate. Ya know.

I can see how it wouldn't be someones cup of joe... but sometimes you don't have to be the greatest musician. Nirvana (esp. Kurt Cobain) are a prime example for me.
I could have been a contender...

You are correct, "They were no Rudimentary Peni" They came fully formed. The point is, why is it still fashionable to talk about the fucking mix of a record that was never that good to begin with. I have, at times, enjoyed their music. Bleach had it's moments but they were few and far between. The less spoken about Nevermind, the better. In utero, hmmmm, well I dug the cover art. Rudimentary peni are worth talking about because they exist, my friend, and they are an astonishing ensemble. But I could've mentioned a thousand other bands... Hell, am I the only guy who thinks Nirvana suck
?

(Yeah, most verily, the drummer rocked)

When I listened to nirvana at age 12 or so, i honestly never paid much attention to the drumming. Years later when i saw nirvana performing on SNL reruns, i found myself thinking dave grohl was kinda crappy....or at most "adequate" in the same way krist was. it seemed to me he played with no subtlety and did the same fills over and over throughout a song.
