12i just bought my first velvet underground album like 3 days ago (with nico)...its pretty ok. the songs are good, but i think the drumming is just tooooo dinky on a lot of it.
heavy vegetable, and anything else by rob crow, is fantastic. once you buy one of his albums, you will feel compelled to buy tons of them.

13I heard a Dinosaur Jr. song on the radio, and I really hated it; But it's the only thing I've heard by them. Any suggestions on albums to buy?
Same for the Meat Puppets, though I've also heard the Nirvana covers off the Unplugged album, and like them pretty well.
As ashamed as I am to admit it... I've never heard a song by Naked Raygun, either.
Interesting note: my aunt used to go see Die Kreuzen in college. This was pretty frickin' cool to a kid who had just finished reading
Our Band Could Be Your Life to know that a respectable -gasp- ADULT had listened to a punk band in college. Funny how people change, aye?

14Check out the song "Murder Mysery" by the Velvet Underground.
My favourite song by them...
*To answer some of the more ancient posts...
Squarepusher - I never liked what I heard
Red House Painters - For some reason I frickin' love em
Coachwips - Saw them live... didn't care for it
Dinosaur Jr. - Proof that the rock guitar solo isn't dead (get Where Ya Been, a great album)
Three Mile Pilot - They are hit and miss. Some very good stuff though

17i know everything i want to know about all music i want to know about.
except jazz.
however much i would enjoy the challenge, however i should open my mind to all sonics and musicks, the simple fact is:
every single person i have ever met who likes jazz is a wanker.
i can only go on my own experience, and what a shit-laden, pretentious, holier-than-thou, tediously smooth, chokingly self-important appalling scene of Satan-masquery experience it is.
i know nothing at all about it, and having 'attempted' it many times, i don't want to know anymore.
remember: today you listen to jazz, tomorrow you betray your country.
sorry, but i feel this has to be said OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!

18cLOUDEAD is a group associated with Anticon Records. Even though they have virtually no resemblence to hip hop that's where they are stored at the local record store here in B-more. Quite good for whatever it is. Electronic stuff with 3 dudes sorta singing and talking over top.
Naked Raygun is kinda cool but it was never something I got into. If I remember correctly, then they're kinda generic punk. I might be wrong about that cuz my memory sucks.
Aphex Twin is really cool stuff. I recomend 'I Care Because You Do'. It is just really inventive electronic music.
Andrew WK is prety cool. An update of Kiss that believe it or not is actually dumber with even more of a focus on partying.

19great topic
and fascinating. i always take it for granted that people have heard certain things, but unless you seek out the records, there's little reason you would have heard the velvets, for example.
anyway, i've heard everything except the following:
third world war
metal urbain, another of steve's big faves
enough opera to know for sure that i hate it
meshuggah
sepultura
n sync
i might never have heard uriah heep
the aynsley dunbar retaliation, though i own the record
ginger baker's air force
hagar schon aaronson shrieve
the get up kids or the other band that the nation of ulysses kid was in. the make up, i've never heard them.
devandra barnhardt, that guy. haven't heard him.
this 18-yr-old girl who made the record that all the NPR djs like. she's spunky and funny and oh so clever. but i haven't heard it.
lil kim
notorious b.i.g.
lena lovich
sixteen horsepower
son volt
most of those newfangled jam bands
little feat. i mean, i probably heard it, but i don't remember hearing it.
spooky tooth
the deftones
nashville pussy

for those looking to get some NR experience under their belts, I would recommend
Basement Screams -Short EP but completely awesome. Best record out there.
Throb Throb- Almost as good.
Understand\Jettison - Both ok. Neither is stellar.
The rest is forgettable.
