Hmm, I'd really love to get one of those, but I guess it's hard to find & expensive for someone living in Europe..

It's really awkward that it's such a hassle to get Sytek's and FMR Audio's products or Tape Op magazine in Germany.

FWIW, my experiences have been similar to Dan's. My Sytek has 2 of the stock channels and 2 with burr browns. From what everyone said about them I was expecting to be blown away by the BB channels, but I tend to like the stock channels on most stuff. The exception might be for vocals with a hyped condenser mic to smooth the edges a bit. But I generally go to my Great River NV in that application...

I have the originaly Sytek, with all stock channels. I aggree with what everyone has said so far... awesome on anything with a lot of transients such as overheads, acoustic instruments, etc. Useable but not awesome on vocals, pretty boring on low-end stuff.

I just borrowed my buddy's Syteks, the newer ones (ii) and he has the Burr Browns on 3 and 4. The Burr Browns sounded awesome on a pair of Earthworks as room mics, gave them a little grit. I also found the Burr Browns sounded great on a snare, especially when pushed a little harder.

Overall, I prefer the clean channels over the bbs.

I don't miss the pad. I use them on close toms and overheads all the time with no problems. No one is EVER going to talk shit about Sytek. It is not possible. No hype. Looking through clear glass straight into the source material.
