The single, "The WAND" is really incredible.
Sorta like "Flash Gordon" era Queen crossed with Blue Cheer.
I listen to it about 10 times a day.
I really love the Flaming Lips. I could type for hours about their special brand of genius.

22I liked the Fearless Freaks documentary a lot. It almost got me back into listening to them again. There's a lot to be said for Steven Drozd.
The Flaming Lips
23that documentary made me feel a bit sad for steven drozd.
it made think that wayne coyne was deliberately not interfering with drozd's heroin addiction because he is reliant on his creative input to the flaming lips.

26In response to the original question, i think that i will continue to have a small amount of faith in the Flaming Lips. I really really disliked the 'Yoshimi...' LP but 'Do You Realize??' on it stood out like a beacon of light. One of my favourite songs of theirs ever. I know loads of people hate that too but it really struck a chord with me. Right time, certain frame of mind/time in my life, who knows?
If there is even one song on the new record that gets me like that did on the last one did then i think it will be worth it.
For me, they are never going to be as truly spectacular as the years gone by, but i don't think i'll ever truly write them off.

I wish they'd have quit after "The Soft Bulletin". They've worn themselves entirely too thin the past few years. When I first heard "Yoshimi", I liked it, but it's obvious that they're running out of steam. "Yoshimi" seemed like a gussied up collection of outtakes from "Bulletin".
And I just listened to "Here it Is" the other day after not hearing it in years. That album fucking slays me...
I perfectly agree with this and everyone here thinks I am crazy. Bear in mind I live in Norman, OK...their hometown and was just at a party with Wayne Coyne and know their live drummer pretty well too...
I can't say that I grew tired of the "Yoshimi" song because I refused to buy the album....but that song and its video make me horribly sad now, for very personal reasons that I will go into sometime when I am drunk. I will just say that it actually involves Yoshimi...
Also, I would like to say that "Clouds Taste Metallic" is horribly underrated!
The Flaming Lips
28I never liked Jonathan Richman and I don't like this shoddy tribute version neither.
