Holy CRAP!

Mary Timony of Helium (some w/Ash of Polvo playing bass), Autoclave and Mary Timony band. kills on guitar. Kinda fantasy lyrics, but pretty phenomenal musician, with great great songs and stellar phrasing. she is a fingertapping monster in a non-wanky manner.

Joan Wasser of Dambuilders, Those Bastard Souls kills on amped violin.

they were in a band together with Nathan of shudder to Think called Mind Science of the Mind that put out one of my favourite "sleeper records" ever. It's a pretty "dude rock" album because Nathan sings on 97% of it, but it's great.

Jean and Basla of Beauty Pill rock and have great lyrics in their sexy, textured songs. Jean's played with Mekons, Calexico, Ida and Dalek as well.

Basla's new band, Recoupero, is playing their first show on Sunday. I plan to attend the festivities. I have the highest expectations.

And yes, Mary Timony is pretty fantastic.

I am also really fond of this band, Fated Fury.

I agree...and her lyrics often cut right through me.... so good they are and really I almost never listen to lyrics. She is sad and sexy and sad all at the same time.

Miss Kelly Hogan gives me goosebumps when she sings... no matter what she is singing... could be the freaking phone book.... goosebumps.

I'm sorry, but I have yet to find a lady or ladies that can rock like guys do. Rock and roll is a man's sport. When women do attempt to it, it is akin to powderpuff football.......the male spectators are just checkin' out the tits and ass, not the music.....and I suppose the dykes are too.

Notice I am saying rock and roll in exclusion to other types of music. Sure ladies can do other types of music very well...and often even better than their male counterparts. But aggressive rock and roll-type music?................sorry Charlene.

Ooooohhhh, Matty's so mean and chauvinist and backward, you think? No, I'm just realistic.

Some reviewer took issue with her latest album's lyrical content, and I just kinda scratched my head at the complaint. It's easy to write a "breakup" album, but very difficult to write one such as "It's A Game"

I wanted to beat that guy up.
I make music/I also make pretty pictures
