You may recall a session I did when we were both at Acme. A kid was going off to college soon, so dad got him and his band a day in the studio to do a bunch of songs. It was a simple set up (guitar, vox, percussion) but both the kid and dad couldn't grasp why we would listen to each song before mixing them. I mean, after we mixed the first few the usual way, he insisted on mixing each remaining song on the fly. His reason was that "all the songs are the same instruments, so why would they need to be mixed differently and, therefor, why do we need to listen to the song before we mix it?"

so fantastic! the three minutes spent listening to the song ONCE through before the final mix is too much... ah, how differently people spend money in the studio...
