RESULTS from previous post about recording a 2 piece

Hey...

This is a note to say thanks to all the people that responded to the below post from a few days ago about recording guitars for a 2-piece...

...I took much of your advice and am really proud of how it came out...

Here's the magic formula that ended up cracking the code:

I played my acoustic Martin into three amps and miced them accordingly:

a 1957 sears silvertone (very muddy sounding)
a 2001 peavey classic 30 (crunchy and brighter)
a 2004 ampeg 300 watt bass with a 1-15' cabinet (low end rumble)

we recorded and it was great....FULL SPECTRUM of sound - no need for over dubs....we panned the Silvertone 75% left, the peavey 75% right, and kept the bass cab in the middle...the trick was getting those amps to each occupy their OWN space in the sound spectrum...and then just capturing that.

I wanted to post the rough mix so you could hear how it came out...this mix is as raw as it comes...no EQ, no compression...we barely even moved the faders...

A sincere thanks...you guys really helped me get the guitar sound I was pining for...
