Keep the board as it is. This is one of only like, two message boards that I enjoy going to, because every other one is filled with spam and trolls. And I hate that shit.

I put a link to my band's website in my signature. I figure that's an easy way for curious people to check out my band without making gross and offensive self-promoting posts all the time.

If dude wants to post Neurosis mp3's, I'm all for it. Neurosis is a band that people actually give a shit about. It's not like Billy's local shitrock band that have never toured or recorded anything other than a four-track demo.

is there a deciding council? I think we all understand the pros and cons. I have viewed the testimonials from both sides and I vote yes by a slim margin.

Perhaps a Crap/Not Crap poll at the beginning of this thread?

My take on this idea is thus:

When there was an earlier thread called something like "new bands you haven't heard of," there were several listings (made by Brad, toomany, etc) of bands I hadn't heard of that were actually pretty great...Cougars, for example.

That was an example of people with similar tastes sharing information. It was genuine. In other words, it didn't reek of self-promotional hubris or posting for the sake of advertising.

And, you know, most bands really do suck.

Furthermore, there is a distinction between being drunk and not being sober.
I wasn't so intoxicated that I was stumbling around and whatnot, but I didn't feel that I was in a completely un-drunk state of mind either.

I think that it would be kinda cool to have a special ego inflating promo area but it reallt does need to be moderated. Have it so you can post up to 2 weeks ahead of time and after the date of the show, the post is taken down. That way it's not cluttered and when you go to page one you're not seeing a post for a show in 1989 or from 2016.

On another board I post on there's a specific 'about your band' forum. You could do that and expand it to having area-specific stickied threads for show announcements. ?
