awful song: Lido Shuffle

It's interesting. I like this song--always have--yet my memory of liking it always far exceeds the actual enjoyment I get from hearing it. Yet my affection for it remains undiminished. It's been a long time since I've listened to it, but I remember there being a subtle, unassuming charm to Boz Scaggs' debut album, a Muscle Shoals record that features Duane Allman prominently.

"The Lido Shuffle" represents the apex of a kind of jazzy mid-70's AOR rock that includes Leo Sayer, Gerry Rafferty, and the abominable Al Stewart. I hate this vague "genre" bitterly, "The Lido Shuffle" and Sayer's "Long Tall Glasses" being notable minor exceptions.

It's uplifting, somehow.

[I have lost my fucking mind face]

What the hell man, people just love MiniMoogs.

Plus, it's hard to resist a song that sounds like a Muppet is singing it.
I submit for your approval Molly Hatchet's "Flirting With Disaster." By all rights, an absolute shit song, but when it comes on, people grin because they know something ridiculous is about to be heard.
Perhaps it's those hi-hats. Possibly the riffage and raging harmony guitar solos - the hilarious overplaying that nobody ever thought a bunch of hairy rednecks were capable of.
For me it's the "hey, c'mere" whistle in the guitar solo and the "wuh lop bop bop yay-uh."
And, of course, the song sounds like a Muppet is singing it.

This rule does not apply to Jewel because she goes in and out of Muppetry and that's just plain sick.
