This band is FAR from crap. They may have become crap, but not so early on.
I love the first two proper albums... Waiting for A Miracle and Sleep No More. I like the third album, Fiction. The Peel Session album (Time Considered) is 3/4 good.

If anything, give Mik Glaisher (drummer) props. He's one of the best post-punk drummers.
And Andy Peake. He played synth and keyboard parts that carried melody when necessary, and created seriously thick ambience and beauty. He took the best elements of Wire, Eno and Pere Ubu and came up with something completely unique and fresh in the early eighties (and sounded nothing like Human League or Echo and The Bunnymen).

Real Story
is a great song
On The Beach is a great song with thick as shit keyboard and bass grooves.
Be Brave is like Joy Division with hope.
Eye Of The Lens has stunning keyboard work and good orchestration.
Dark Parade is more seriously goth than anything Sisters of Mercy could shit out. And it is as powerful as early Killing Joke.
Independence Day is possibly the best vocal driven tune written in the 80's.
There are many more great tunes...

If you like Interpol, Echo, The Cure, Pere Ubu, Gang Of Four, Killing Joke, the Sound, etc, you owe it to check them out.

Terrible.

Ugh.

I cannot stand this band.

Wow, you did a search and resurected this thread, which hasn't been active for 6 months, just to make this statement?
You DO hate these guys.

I really hate this band.

I was unfortunate enough to hear them again yesterday, and such was my horror that I felt bound to search out a C/NC and make my feelings known.

I hate to quote myself, but what a difference a year makes.
I THOUGHT I didn't like Shreikback, but what I had heard was very late period stuff, and some remixes that had been done. Plus, I never cared much for that Nemesis song.
I now have "The Y Records Years" and it's great.
Really great. Also, it's ahead of it's time.

I also got to hear the first King Swamp record. I had only heard the second one, which I didn't like. The first one is actually pretty good.

I guess Dave Allen is a total badass.

As for the Comsats. I don't see how anyone can hate them so much. Not like them, sure, but what's to despise?
I'll admit, they went downhill, but they put out enough good stuff for me to forgive them of that. Great band.

can you elaborate for us, please? are you listening to the real genius soundtrack?

My wife made a winning move for control over the kitchen hi-fi and cruelly inflicted Comsat Angel's first record (refuse to Google for the name) on my poor ears.

If I was a super-hero staring in an early 80s movie, the evil genius who would be my nemesis might construct a band who's sound was the absolute, perfect, subtle summation of the noises I least enjoy. This band could be accurately portrayed by Comsat Angels.

The genius of Comsat Angels in terms of my hatred of their music is that there are bands that don't sound entirely unlike them that I do like, such as Chameleons and Echo and the Bunnymen.

I cannot accurately describe my hatred of Comsat Angel's music without first listening to them, which is something I am unwilling to do.

Willl that do?

That sums it up! I guess it's one of those "things" for you. If you like The Chameleons, then you like that sort of music. They are very much the same genre. However, for you, the Comsats have that x factor of shit that one can't describe.

I have no idea why, but Susan Sarandon bugs me.
My wife has the same thing with Jeff Goldblum.
Sure, there are slightly annoying things about them, but why we dislike them respectively *so much* is anyone's guess.
Ironically, we both love the movie Igby Goes Down, which features both of them.
