Comsat Angels - my dad played 'em a lot when I was a kid.

NOT AT ALL CRAP, but I can't detach 'em from a sentimental childhood thing.

He went to bed about a decade ago, or whenever he sold his soul to the bankers and the elites.

Wow. Your dad is my new hero.

My dad played some good stuff, like Billy Preston and the first Chicago album.
He also played some truly awful shit, like The Doobie Brothers and the rest of the Chicago albums.

Anything with a Hammond B3 on it, good or bad.

I guess my dad's older than yours, but to make a generational comparision, let's just say my dad wasn't playing Piper At The Gates of Dawn.

This record is godawful.

I bought this record a few days ago, thought I give it a chance. Okay. This record boasts probably the most hideous cover art I have ever seen. Okay. Still I buy it because, you know, I probably own most of the Iron Maiden records as well.

But, what the hell, I put this record on and the first lyric, she goes:

When the sky-full of tears
Is threatening to fall
Don't stand in the way
Come inside, close the door
The sky will clear again
After the rain...

What the hell? I file this record under "future presents for people I really, really dislike".

I'm torn on Fiction too. It's got a few hits and far more clunkers. From what I gather, this was their most rushed album. Sounds like they are trying to grab marketshare from Japan or Talk Talk (or something akin to that). Yeah, some of the lyrics are definitely craptastic, but not a whole bunch more than their contemporaries (i.e.- Pere Ubu, Echo and the Bunnyfarts, the Sound, etc..).

Still, don't write em off entirely- give Sleep No More and Waiting for A Miracle a chance. And the Peel Session album too. Sleep No More is one of the most intense and bleak albums I can think of in the post-punk genre. And the elevator shaft recorded drums... cool.

The album cover art doesn't bother me. Torn paper art. Whoa. So what? Most of the stupid photos on the cover of all the first few Echo albums are just as gae. At least this has some abstration going on. Isn't it just par for the course that early eighties bands have crappy album art?

Silly guys.

This song is great. It works really well for me when I am physically tired.

'Fiction' is very good record. Beautiful.

I wish it would rain here.
