Directed by Catherine Breillat. Preposterous French tripe. A bad Story of O, which is itself bad to begin with.

never seen this one, so i can't vote on it one way or the other.

can't say i'm a huge fan of Catherine Breillat, but i did think Brief Crossing was really solid. in fact, i'd actually recommend that one. it's good. (the DVD has an intriguing interview with her that's worth seeing even if you don't particularly care for her films or their general subject matter.)

my introduction to her movies was a screening of Fat Girl, which was an odd film to see in the theater without any preconceptions. Sex Is Comedy might have been a better place to start. i can easily see why someone wouldn't like Breillat, but like Michael Haneke, i find it hard to dismiss her outright. she's capable of good work.

If not for the slightly more explicit sex than usual (which at this point isn't all that unusual) a totally forgettable movie. I didn't think it was terrible, just unremarkable. Crap.

that's what i thought about A Very Young Girl. seemed like a more explicit, less sensorially gratifying Mouchette/Balthazar, with lots of excessive eroticism.

I'd like to see more films in which the beautiful lead actress all of a sudden sucks some bloke's nob.
