i have one that was given to me as a gift. i only use it when i'm on multi-hour roadtrips. i've not gotten a speeding ticket before i got it, nor since, except once on lake shore drive in chicago (years ago) cause it was snowing and the cop felt like it.
what it does for me is make me feel like i can speed like i always do, but have a better chance of braking in time to not get a ticket. *especially* at night. during the day i'm pretty good about scanning visually at the horizon. but at night, no good.
they're illegal in virginia. isn't that crazy?
there's also a such thing as a "radar detector detector". it seems to me like it would be impossible to detect the fact that radar is being detected, but i asked a guy who's way ahead of the curve when it comes to uber-tech stuff, and he said it is indeed a real thing, and it works by reading the signature of the oscillator used in a radar detector. i don't really get it, but this guy is kinda smort.
