6. once at the fireside bowl, i saw this band from new orleans who were really one of the most terrible bands i ever heard. there were two guys and a drum machine, and they had a green thrift-store lamp hanging from a mic stand...i have no idea who they are, but i called them "little black", because they sounded like an effeminate big black. they SUCK. they also stank, they seemed to have not bathed in weeks.

i think this was the richmond band, the gaskets.

i'm sorry. i'll beat them the next time i see them around.

At the Drive-In, and anything related to Cedric Bixler is bound to get a stamp of hatred from me. There is only one person/band that I despise more: Connor Oberst/Bright Eyes. I can ignore almost any other piece of garbage musician out there but this Bright Eyes character, I want to squat over his mouth and shit down his throat.

Not liking them, sure. Thinking they've overrated, sure. But one of your most hated bands ever?

Yes.

I fucking hate the music of Mogwai.

They are boring, predictable chancers playing a bastardised, low-brow, cock-punchingly vacuous version of Slint et al's 'post-rock'.

They take the sounds and textures of Slint and MBV and any other tried-and-tested 'credible' left-field innovator they consider worth plagiarising and apply music that is at once predictable, simplistic and predictable. And predictable.

They have not one ounce of originality in their stupid, post-rock-cool, box-ticking bodies.

They have inspired exactly one zillion (I have stats) identikit bands to also box-tickingly rip-off seminal left-field bands while creating a scene that simultaneously appears to champion perceived innovation and abject plagiarism.

They are to Slint and MBV what Rossdale's Bush is/was to Pixies and Nirvana.

Fuck them very much.

CRAP.

:WF: zero.

I can't believe no one here listed The Dave Matthews Band. I hate them with a passion. Unfortunately, my girlfriend loves them.

On a more obscure note, there's this local Chicago band, Luftwaffe, who I always like to mock. They are from the industrial/neo-folk genre, and they scrape together every possible cliche in the book from those genres. I went to one show just to mock them, saying as they started each song, this is their Death in June song, this is their Boyd Rice song, etc. Their website is equally ridiculous, and they seem to have some fascination with trepanation, with a link to a website concerning this. I wish they had a fascination with ice pick lobotomies.

This reminds me of the early Stereolab shows. I like Stereolab but their early setlists use to not list song titles but list the names of the bands they were copying on each song. A set list would read:
Neu
Kraftwerk
Wire

etc.

I find it much easier to ignore these non-music "bands" and "artists" than hate them. They won't go away, but neither will rich people, so I just ignore them.

Hate takes effort.

I Hate the Eagles. I Hate Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I don't consider the modern trucker-hat/condom/tattoo/headshop commercials people like to call "bands" as being "music" at all.

Sounds like noise, to me.

I don't hate any acts. I don't feel it's worth the effort or the braintime.

Having said that, I dislike the band called Muse immensely. They seem to distill every trend in modern popular music I dislike; self-asborbed, pseudo-emotional themes; pompousness without irony; stadium rock without its few saving graces; the utterly safe, white, blokey, middle class influences on the music; an antithetical, crassly intellectual stance toward pop. I find everything they do abhorrent and stupid and dull. Yet they seem to be inescapably huge. I am at a loss as to why. I get sent all their awful records, and recently I put one on thinking "OK, forget about everything previous, and just evaluate it like you'd never heard of them before". I hated it more than ever.

Why don't I 'get it'? What do people get out of this?

While at the orthodontist's this morning I was subjected to what I'm pretty sure was a track off the solo album of "Fergie" from the Black Eyed Peas.

I am pretty sure I have never, ever hated a song as much as I hated this one.
