i pretty much dislike this band. i saw them live literally eight or more times from the dischord days up through the major label days. they have everything you'd need to be a good band, and they ended up boring me to tears.

i listened to one of the later albums, and it occurred to me that this band is the def leppard of d.c. rock. there's something very sterile, anthemic, and clean about how they "rock". not my bag at all.

CRAP.

Both bands names were "Jaw" something.
Then we get Burning Airlines and Jets To Brazil at the exact same time.
What are the odds?

they also released a spilt 7inch and toured together...

The one time i saw Jawbreaker they had the unenviable task of playing after Jawbox. Jawbox made them look silly.

Jawbox is not crap.

The one time I saw them, they were okay. I can't say they slayed my face. My brother saw them a year later in Philly and said they were much, much better that time.

The first record does little for me, but I love all of their other records. Love 'em. "Breathe" sometimes comes up on my iPod when I'm running, when I'm lucky.

The big difference is that Jawbreaker sounds like the greatest band in the world when you're a teenager but not so much thereafter. Jawbox always seemed to have more grown-up interests/appeal.

Haha.

J.Robbins produced/mixed a couple of Jets to Brazil albums. Maybe it's not such a huge accident.

Eh, they're both good. Jawbox is kinda more intellectual and less despondent, so maybe that's why it has a little more staying power. I'm no longer listening to either of these bands these days, but I still have zero regrets about liking them years ago, which I can't say for most bands I was into when I was 18.

I had a rare version of that 7" that I sold to someone on ebay for $107 about 8 years ago. It was two 1-sided 7"s, where the blank sides were "decorated" by the bands. I think the jawbox one had colored glue drawings and the jawbreaker one had an ad from a 30 year old magazine pasted to it. It was really nice and all, but I enjoyed the $107 more than looking at those records. I still look at the pics I took of it for the auction once in a while. *sniff*

I recently listened to Grippe by Jawbox, and it didn't do for me whatever it used to do back when it came out. Still over all, Not Crap as long as I never hear that cover of the Tori Amos song "Cornflake Girl" that they did.

J. Robbins is my favorite "punk" bass player ever, and it's a shame that he switched to guitar for Jawbox. The basslines he played in Government Issue was fantastic. I heard that new band he's got now (where he's playing bass again) and they're boring. He's not playing super melodic basslines anymore. What's the name of that band again? Maybe I'll give them another chance...

my ex-girlfreind has it, I will tell her to ebay it the next time I bump into her...
