Band: Man Is The Bastard

I can't remember how I found out about this band. I think there was a review in Dear Jesus of the 7" with George H.W. Bush sodomizing Saddam Hussein on the cover.

Long story short, I was smitten.

The M.I.T.B. side of the M.I.T.B./Aunt Mary split could not be any better. It's one of those records that I knew was amazing from minute one. Incredible sounds.

In proto-internet times, it was difficult finding out when new releases were coming out, but it was apparent that M.I.T.B. was putting out a record every two weeks. I bought everything I saw - about 30 releases, I guess. I thought I had the discography fairly well covered. Later, I found out I wasn't even close.

I drove 900 miles in 24 hours to watch them play. Very much worth it.

NOT CRAP.

Yeah! NOT CRAP.

I found out about them through a split LP with Merzbow (Bastard Noise that was, which is an MITB offshoot). I kind of backtracked from there.

I think the case could be made that they went further where a lot of grindcore from the mid-eighties (Electro Hippies, Napalm Death et al.) stopped. There's lots of really great drumming and, yes, incredible sounds.

Pretty much obligatory for anyone with an interest in power electronics/progressive hardcore.

Looking at their Wiki, I realise that there is a lot more to investigate.

I did the door downstairs when Bastard Noise played here a few months or so ago. Their set was okay but I wasn't bowled over. A lot of people were excited to see them though.

I've only heard bits and pieces of MITB. Do they have a definitive, must-have LP?
