Not crap. Eliminator is the kind of record I'd never choose to put on myself, but if I heard Sharp Dressed Man on the radio I wouldn't change the station - I'd probably turn it up. And let's not forget Sleeping Bag, which is about as wilfully stupid as a song can be.

I saw ZZ Top around the time of Eliminator and my clearest memory of the gig is not the furry guitars that spun around, the giant sphynx head at the back of the stage, or even the rocking opening set by Rose Tattoo - it was the amazing way the densely packed crowd parted like the Red Sea, the cause being a vomit-drenched biker walking with the exact "arms loosely held in front, slow stagger" popularised by Night of the Living Dead.

Deguello is a great album. They started to go downhill for me from there.

Thank you every much Electrical Audio message board members for introducing me to ZZ Top. I'd of course heard all the hits, but never looked into their back catalog. This summer, after reading this thread, I purchased "Tejas" on vinyl and. . . wow. What a truly awesome record. Such subtly impressive muscianship, and one of the best sounding records I've ever heard.

I've slowly purchasing everything I can find up through "Eliminator" and have yet to be dissapointed. Well, except for "Pearl Necklace". Gross dude.
