We played our cover of "Oh How We Laughed" by Silkworm at our record release show back in March.

We've done "The Calvary Cross" by Richard Thompson twice.

I love both of these songs a lot!

Covers I've recorded that may or may not see the light of day:

Bonnie Prince Billy "You Will Miss Me When I Burn"
Jandek "Naked in the Afternoon"/"Remind You"/"Ace of Diamonds"
Wall of Voodoo "Mexican Radio"
Left Banke "Walk Away Renee"
The Fall "Birmingham School of Business School"

Covers I have played live:

Jandek "Naked in the Afternoon"/"Remind You"/"Ace of Diamonds"
Tom Waits "Step Right Up"/"Ol' '55"*

*I was so nervous about singing - and trying to sing this song as it was written, and not singing it "like me" - that I completely forgot the words and stopped playing guitar. Thank god "Step Right Up" went better.**

**Actually, now that I think about it, forum member noise&light was playing drums with me that night, and if she had not been there I probably would have run offstage crying.
I make music/I also make pretty pictures

It wasn't that bad. And no one noticed that my drum beat took a very disco turn in the middle of the song.

I was in a Brian Eno cover band for awhile.

We did so many different tunes.

Kings Red Hat
No One Receiving
Baby's On Fire
Taking Tiger Mountain
Cindy Tells Me
Here Come The Warm Jets (fun to play drums on that one)
Needles In The Camels Eye
Some of Them Are Old
Third Uncle
The True Wheel
Mother Whale Eyeless (my favorite)
Burning Airlines
Kings Lead Hat
Backwater

The last band I was in covered Neil Young's Tell Me Why and Where Is My Mind by the Pixies. It's so much fun to play other people's songs.

'All-Hip Mahotma' (don't ask!) rehearsed frequently for a spell there in the early 90's, lasted just long enough to play 2 house parties, never wrote an original tune, and chose covers with no particular strategy other than (a) songs someone liked at the time and/or (b) songs that weren't too terribly demanding to play:

Talking Heads - "Warning Sign"
Led Zeppelin - "Custard Pie"
Pixies - "Debaser"
Black Sabbath - "St. Vitus Dance"
Mr Bungle - "Girls Of Porn"
Butthole Surfers - "Graveyard"
The Police - "On Any Other Day"
Jimi Hendrix - "I Don't Live Today" -> Butthole Surfers "Toronado"
Pixies - "No. 13 Baby"
Jethro Tull - "To Cry You A Song"
Naked Raygun - "Soldiers Requiem"
Skin Yard - "Slow Runner"
Camper Van Beethoven - "Sweethearts"

Edgar Winter Group - Frankenstein
Motorhead - Ace of Spades
Slayer - Reign In Blood
Danzig - Mother
Suicidal Tendencies - Cyco Vision
Black Sabbath - Paranoid

And that was all in one set. There's probably some more I'm forgetting. Other ones I can remember:

The Vectorman Theme Song
Gorilla Biscuits - Hold Your Ground
Operation Ivy - Bombshell
Leftover Crack - Rock the 40oz.
Suicide Machines - Capsule & DDT
Blood for Blood - Love Song
"That man is a head taller than me.

...That may change."
