I like the spare bass sound, and the saxaphones are sexy, but for some reason i feel like someone with a lot more leisure time than me would enjoy their music more than i would...

anyways, they are NOT CRAP.

Cure for pain is the only song I've ever heard by Morphine. I like to play it on my own bass, it feels nice. Didn't the fella have only two strings on his bass for everything? That's pretty bold if it's the case. They always seemed like someone I should check out, but I never dd.

The first album was the only consistent and real good album.

The sound has nothing to do with jazz fusion as someone said here. It is too much of a personal sound for that. I also believe the band has been marketed as the band with the two string bass-player but that is marketing IMHO. The mood of the music was a little too depressive for my taste. But many bands have crappy lyrics.

All albums after that were not consistent enough. Therefore I have to vote crap. Except for Good, the debut. That is overall crap.

This moron kid who knew his music but was totally helpless in seemingly every way recommended Morphine to me...we worked at a pet store together...the kid couldn't do shit. He really did have pretty good taste though. He liked some awful CRAP though too if I'll recall (can't remember what now though...probably some awful metal band that annoys me). I recommended Shellac to him. I think he found it, I'm sure he loved it...which is good because it seemed like the sort of thing that could brighten up his sad life (his shit was sad indeed...but I think he mostly brought it upon himself). People who work at pet stores are messed up by the way. At least my pet store.

Still haven't checked out Morphine though...I'd like to.
