Not that any of you have said it, but any music that is has been classified as having "dope beats" has instantly earned my rath.
Have any of you fans of rap or hip-hop heard of Kurtis Blow? "The Breaks" is as close to being a fan of this genre as I get. And that's only because my roommate at the time was a freebase dealer (crack before it was called that), and his customers always wanted to hear it. Nostalgia value, around 1981. Cool T and his fur coat, Cadillac with curb feelers and deer antler hood ornament and "ladies", man, those was some innocent times.

I think that Led Zeppelin has been unwittingly described as having "dope beats" (by those that use such language) since their drum beats have been sampled so many times in rap songs.
Who's Kurtis Blow? I've never heard of him. I'll have to check him out since I'm such a fan of rap.
Peace!

14Kurtis Blow = one of the Sugar Hill "stable" in the early days of rap.
I treasure all of my Sugar Hill singles, and the boxed set is a good way to get familiar with a lot of this stuff. Sure, it sounds a bit dated now, but so what?

20These guys had some good albums and Paul's Boutique is my favorite of them. Sure, for a few years you couldn't go out to a party, bar, etc. without probably hearing them, but so what? Overplayed? Yes. Crap? No.
