So, I got this new job that is going to take me all over the country for like 3 weeks a month. I'd like to have a little recording device to kill time in dreary hotel rooms.
Does anyone know of a good recorder that doesn't look too much like a bomb? Analog or Digital. I suppose digital w/ HD would be easier. I'd like at least 4 tracks.
Not looking to spend more than 500, but would like to keep it around 250.
Thanks

2I guess the first question is with your traveling will you be taking a laptop with you? Seems like you would have a lot more you could do with a laptop and less stuff to carry around with you if you also use one for work.
When I have jobs that have taken me arround the country I enjoy going arround checking out the thrift, pawn shops and droping in on the local club bar scene and get out of the hotel. Meet some nice people that way sometimes makes the next time through town even more fun.

3We have a motu traveler at work. It's awesome. You need to get a firewire card with a texas instruments chip though (like keyspan).
I just looked at the cost though and apparently it's expensive. Nevermind. Get a portastudio.

4Fostex MR-8? Pretty nice for what it is. Eight tracks. 200-300 bucks. Not a whole lot of memory, though.

I was going to suggest this too.
As for the memory, CF cards are dirt cheap now, so it could easily be upgraded to 2GB for less than £20.
