Anyone 'cool' would never even consider such a thing, it would be laughable to anyone 'cool'.

Sometimes you just need a job, dude. The chance to be one of those 'cool' two percent is there, right? Maybe someone cool does join the force, hoping to bump that up to three percent. You can, potentially, do some good as a cop. It's not a pipe dream.

What is a proper job for a cool person to take anyway? Piloting planes into the bush of Africa to deliver AIDS vaccine? Recording engineer?

No one mentioned this yet:

Last summer, a 21-year-old UW-Milwaukee student was shot to death about a block from my house while he was delivering a tasty Jimmy John's sub to someone. He was shot by some jerkoff kid trying to rob him.

On top of that, i can name about a dozen friends of mine who have been mugged in the same general area. Some of those friends have said "fuck this" and started a neighborhood bar-time walking program. I walked with them the first night, and will again in the future. Awesome.

Frankly, a lot of us are sick of this shit happening in our otherwise lovely neighborhood (yes, i'm talking about Riverwest, fellow Milwaukeeans, as if you couldn't guess). No, i don't think the solution is "then move," because fuck if i'm living in fear.

My point? Had this happened in Riverwest--some undercover cop shooting and killing a kid trying to rob him--i would feel a little bad that someone had to die. No one should take too much pleasure, if any, in death. However, that said, i wouldn't cry very much either.

We here are civilized people and know that robbing people is wrong. For some reason, there are people who don't understand this, despite the kid who shot the Jimmy John's driver being arrested (if i recall correctly) and held accountable. If something like this is necessary to get the fucking message across that you don't fucking rob people, well, i'm sad that it had to come to such extreme methods, but at the same time, tough shit. Don't play with guns unless you're prepared to take a bullet.

Now, in the case of this cop shooting a kid who was robbing him? Investigate it. Have an inquiry. I think that any time a cop kills someone in the line of duty, there needs to be oversight to ensure there was no other recourse. If the cop did his job, an inquiry will confirm this. And then if he is exonerated, well done officer. Yours is a hard job that i wouldn't want, and i'm glad you performed it well.

What does it hurt to lose one more dumbass who thought it was a good idea to try to rob pizza guys? The kid would not have amounted to anything and would have just been a drain on resources.

My name is Chad and I'm a Chicago cop. It's a great job and I love it.

If any of you have questions about the job I will answer them to the best of my knowledge either here or by PM. Obnoxious outbursts will more than likely be ignored.

Which came first: the chicken or the egg?

Because black skin equals automatic guilt, people distrust cops for assessing guilt based soley on skin color. Since one is a reaction to the other, the two are not equatable. I think that people's aprehension is a survival tactic. Biologists teach zoo-raised endangered species to mistrust humans before they set them free, so that they do not get taken advantage of.

People's dubiousness towards police is not inherent, but the result of their [the cop's] predecessor's behavior. That is something up to the police to change. I am not going to let my guard down just because cops have a tough job. Its not like the job description was sprung on them after they graduated the academy.

Ditrust does not mean dislike. A crap/not crap attitude about the Chicago Police should be subjective. I've been sore about the CPD since our practice spot was robbed. Four months later one of the band members spotted some kid bumming for change and wearing one of the stolen basses in the same gig bag right outside the spot! The CPD was called and upon arrival they immediately grilled the band member about what he was doing in that area. He explained the sit. and told them that if they opened the kids gig bag they'd find a Guild b301a bass.

So they went over to the kid, opened the bag, and found that same bass. One cop turned to the band member and said, "How do we know its yours?"

"Well I told you what was going to be in the bag. And that bass is on our police report. And we are right outside our practice spot."

"There were probably thousands of these made. You can't just go around accusing people of stealing your stuff."

"....wtf?"

They arrested the kid on an outstanding warrant, and on the way to process him, get this, they let him drop all of his property, including the bass, off at his friend's house. The ticket to $20,000 worth of stolen gear, and these two sawed-off cunts let it go because they're too lazy to do their jobs.

Another band member's dad is a Chicago cop, so they went up to the station with the dad and of course then everyone was embarrassed at what happened to a cop's son and "Oh we'll get some guys on it right away." They did recover about 75% of the stuff, but the lesson learned was you can get something done as long as you know the right people. And make friends with the kids of cops. it pays.

But not all cops are bad. I've never been fucked with by a bike cop. And I'm sure some are downright warm and fuzzy once they take off that catcher's equipment.

Do I think all cops are assholes? No, some of them are dicks.

It's true, I don't know your personal experiences. If you had a cop abuse his power and knock you around, plant drugs on you, I can see where that would skew your perceptions. But if your personal experiences were more along the line of "you were acting up in some bar or at some party and some Chicago cop came down really hard on you to get you to stop it", relax a little, that is a lesson you learn about Chicago cops. You'll have to tell your stories if you want me to sympathize with your opinion of cops.

Me, as an 18 year resident, I've rarely had to interact with cops, period ( yes, I'm white ), and out of those times, one cop was borderline dickhead with me, but hardly in breach of any professional ethics.

I don't need you or anybody else to sympathize with my opinion of cops.
You have to accept that based on your experiences, your opinions and perceptions are skewed as well.
