Ghosts most definitely real - the end.

Believe it or not. I saw shit in that house that was totally unexplainable in terms of the world as we know it. He also had a similar experience with the burners on his stove--while he was home. Call it whatever you want.

Get the right guys for the job, Mike:

Seriously - for $25, you can get one of these which may help deter the perpetrator:

Another option would be to get a wireless motion detecting camera:

Turn it on when you leave for a while, and that thing will email you images if motion is detected. I don't know if you're going to get spammed because of your cats, or whether or not it works with ectoplasm.

This kind of device famously helped catch 2 burglars in the UK recently. The homeowner was on vacation in Spain, got a text msg on his phone from the camera system saying things were moving in his house, so he logged on to his laptop to look and saw the guys with striped shirts and eye masks taking shit out of the house. He called the cops from Spain and he watched the live feed of them getting arrested on his laptop.

Anything weird like that happened in the summer?
Even if cats are friendly, if someone broke into the house, then 1. he might be not friendly to your cats 2. he might kick them away when they get close to him, or 3. he really likes cats.

If these weird occurrences are taking place only in the winter, then it's possible that it's some homeless who wanted to warm his hands near your stove, wanted to take a shower. That could be pretty much the case if there are no other houses around you.
On the other hand, this guy is coming in when he knows you're going out for a long period. But there's no way one would know that unless he is taping your phone calls and threw some tapes all over your place. now, you know how a tape machine looks like, so I guess that's not the case.

Is there anyone weird in your surroundings? looking at your house? has anyone ever knocked on your door, asking for something(someone you don't know).
set a small camera, that will help.

No. I saw the guy interviewed on TV...he was looking very smug. Well, you would be.

(no burglar outfits though)
