What distortion pedal do you use?

i have been using the robert keeley 3-way modded proco rat for a month or two now, and would highly recommend it. rather than write a novelette extolling its various advantages, it'd be best to click http://www.robertkeeley.com/product.php?id=7 .

also, i've found the dod classic fuzz to be much better than my big muff. it has more bass and low-mid thickness than the big muff. sometimes this can seem to compromise the attack on notes, but it has a superb sound and great sustain.

I use 2 boss ds 1's .
I have a question for the tech geeks.
Ive heard that there are older ds 1 's which were made in korea which are better pedals than the newer ds 1's. I have one of each. the only noticeable difference I can find is the screw that holds the battery compartment shut. Older one is i think silver, newer one is a black screw. Is this a load of crap or is this true. Ive seen the older ones on Ebay go for way more than the newer ones.
I also use a J-station becuase it has a spdif out, that I use with my MIA card in my computer. The effects on it are ok, but I mainly only use the "rectified" setting. I can control it through midi so it helps when using a home pc setup, I can save settings and call them up in mid song without fumbling with stomping on pedals. My hand foot coordination skills are lacking.

i play drums in another band and the guitarist uses one. it sounds really good, though he has it set up funny so it basically ceates a big wall of noise. but in a good way, as it contrasts really nicely with the other guitarist who is doing intricate stuff over the top.

the latest series of marshall pedals, the silvery, made in china (korea?) ones, well, i don't think much of them. we used a couple of those and they kept breaking down.

great pedals that my band is loving right now:

1) huge green box russian big muff - as far as i'm concerned that was the best big muff series by far.
2) "Mysto Dysto" by Loco Box
No one seems to know anything about that company. All we know is that this thing is capable of some mean high frequencies. it's somewhere between a big black-ish noise and 90s surf music. neat.
3) the rat by proco
i have to agree that that's one extremely useful pedal.
4) "soul preacher" by electro harmonix - yeah, i know, it's a compressor. but it nails the keith richards ca. exile on mainstreet tone if you crank it. great.

Tube Works- Real Tube (i love the harsh tone i get outta this pedal)
Dunlop Wah (when used with the other two gets a doom funk sound that rules)
and of course a Muff cuz the pedal just rules except for the fact that i can get a more high pitched "treble" tone from the real tube.

oh yeah, i gotta find a good Percolator clone and a moog ringmod (that costs less than $300)

i have heard this also.
my ds1 was made in japan, and has the black screw for the battery compartment. i have yet to compare it to the newer ds1 that a friend has.
probably get around to it some time.

my distortion picks are as follows and i quote...muff, rat, and this lil number i got from effector13. its called a truly beautiful disaster..its a occilator distortion not your standard transistor clip style distortion its plenty fucked up sounding.. plus it has a feedback loop built in so you can connect other pedals and feed them back intothemselves for unheardo f sonic CHAOS... check them out!

This is what's on my board..

Sabine Tuner
Boss DS-1 Distortion
Boss Blues Driver (BD-2??)
Marshall Blues-Breaker
Boss DD-5 Digital delay
Boss Tremolo (something)

not in that order..

Also I use a Boss Fuzz Pedal (FZ-3?) it's got three fuzz settings plus the other stuff like gain, bass, treble

I also love the Hughes and Kettner Tube Rotosphere I picked up. It's a cool leslie simulator... I don't really use it but I got it so cheap I wouldn't ditch it.

I've had lots of crap this stuff seems to work
