Acoustic Treatment

Hey All,

Our band is moving into a new space this month that has a basement where we are going to set up shop. It's half-way underground, but the other half has pretty thin walls. The ceiling is pretty bad too. We have lots of MDF from our current rehearsal space. I was thinking of gluing styrofoam sheets onto one side, and carpet sides to the other to deaden and insulate. We will also be hanging thick blankets around the room.

Do you guys and girls think that the styrofoam, or any of this, will do what we need to do (which is not wake up the baby next door?

Thanks.

Styrofoam's probably not going to work. If you're trying to keep sound from leaking outside, you're going to need something with some mass to it. I've been working on similar stuff lately with my own practice space. Just search the tech room for soundproofing ideas. There's a lot of extremely useful info on doing it right for cheap.
