The White Stripes- Oh FUCK! I did it again. Nevermind.

No really though, the dude from Braid/Hey Mercedes is awesome but he has really toned it down over the last couple albums. That's admirable though.

Zach Lind from Jimmy Eat World is the perfect example of Less is More drumming. Listen to Clarity.

Stevie Wonder on the Signed, Sealed, Delivered album. He's one of the best drummers ever and no one knows it. Listen to Sugar on that album.

Dusty Beard went back and rerecorded all the drum parts for the early ZZ Top albums for the remastered cd's.

This is the worst thing just about any old-band-trying-to-survive has done. It's fucking awful, the "new" sound is terrifying, and it's that much worse because those early records were so fucking great. The drumming in particular is unbelievable, and is now ruined. What a terrible mistake.

But still, it should be added to this list: Frank Beard pretty much all the way to Eliminator played brilliantly & sounded sometimes perfect.

Meshuggah - Destroy Erase Improve

i think the statement "drum sounds alone" especially describes this album. while the guitar work is beyond fucking tight, it completly lacks any harmonic/melodic sophistication. worth picking up though, i think it's their best work.

HAMID DRAKE

i'll also second that. i saw him play with the dkv trio at a funiture store and he scared the shit out of me. i don't think i've ever seen someone hit a drum so hard. you get the feeling he could crush your skull in his palm.

finally, without the intention kissing ass on an albini related site, i'll mention ray washam, particularly on the song "hated chinese".
