Dashiell Hammett Inspired Film: Brick

What a great film! I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I would agree with Cranius that the use of a new and unfamiliar lexicon made it hard work at times, especially the exchange in the library between Brendan and 'Brain', which neither myself or the 3 others watching the film could translate.

I haven't really seen many film noirs, but you know what this film reminded me of? Fletch. The Fletch books. You've got your relentless young sleuth, always ready with a wisecrack and not afraid to take a beating or several, (Brendan/Fletch), the smart pal on the inside, doing the intelligence work and backing up the hero (Brain/Alston), the murdered woman who's romantically involved with the hero, (several Fletch books), and it's set in California.

I'd like to see more films with Brendan Frye. If they can make Fantastic 4:2?
C'mon. Make a sequel to Brick!

Not crap, but I mostly wanted to comment on the old film discussion.

Picture isn't a problem for me. What gets me is audio. Not that it isn't sharp enough, but I have a lot of trouble understanding what people are saying since the audio is a bit muffled. This wouldn't be a problem, but a lot of old VHS movies I rent don't have CC on them.

Nobody else seems to have this problem. Maybe my ears are just bad.
